Storm at Sea

Two Poems by Daniel Edward Moore

Alabama April

If you reenact
the last painful moment
I’ll love you harder
than a civil war drama

on a hot field of clover
in Ft. Oglethorpe Georgia
where bullets rust
until church is over

until Selma’s savior
rains mercy, not money,
on white boys
held hostage by lilies.

Putting Out for Storms

I’m teaching a class
in Putting Out for Storms.
A waiver must be signed
relieving me of guilt
for what your hands will surely find
in the dark wet clouds of you,
as somebody’s sorrow
scorches your mast,
sizzling like a
starfish on fire.

Comfort may be found
in breathless depths,
where pain inscribed your ghostly ship,
so, be kind, and take them there,
watch their mouths
open and close
as if caring looks holy
all sexed-up
in a sheer hypoxic blue.
You could get an A in deep.
