There is no better opportunity to get extensive feedback on a piece than from a well-run workshop.

Ryan Dennis will facilitate one-hour group workshop sessions that provide a friendly yet focused environment in which the work of enrolled writers can be closely examined.

How it Works

The workshop will contain between 4 and 6 people. No more than 6 people will be admitted. If less than 4 people enroll, the workshop will not run.

Meetings will last one hour. The first meeting will be an introduction to workshopping rules, etiquette and expectations, as well as a chance to get to know each other. Every meeting after that we will workshop one participant’s story/excerpt.

All participants are expected to read the story to be workshopped, leave digital comments on the manuscript, and to come to class with a one-page letter to the author detailing the strengths of the submission and suggestions for improvement.

The group will discuss the submission for the entire hour. The author is not allowed to speak until the end, during which they can ask questions for clarification. They are encouraged to take notes while their piece is being considered.

The facilitator may use examples from the submission to teach relevant aspects of the writing craft.

At the end of the session, the workshopped author will receive the one-page letters and marked-up manuscripts from the facilitator and other participants.

When

The introductory session will occur online on Monday, September 30th, 2024 7pm EST (New York). The workshop will run on Mondays at the same time for the next 4-6 weeks (depending on number of participants).
